🏛️ HERTFORDSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL
A decision due this autumn could clear most of Hertfordshire's SEND funding gap
Hertfordshire County Council is waiting to hear whether the Department for Education will accept its SEND reform plan, which the council says would see Government cover 90% of its overspend on high needs funding for children with special educational needs. Executive director Jo Fisher told councillors the submission was rated "a strong one" with strong partnership input, and the outcome is expected in September or October. If it's accepted, it takes real pressure off services for children with Education, Health and Care Plans, so it's worth watching for the decision later this autumn.
Some of Hertfordshire's adult care buildings could be redeveloped or sold
The county council will bring forward feasibility studies this autumn on redeveloping or disposing of parts of its adult care estate, councillors were told. Adult care director Helen Maneuf said members will be asked from September to approve studies into how some accommodation could be sold off, part of a push for savings as construction costs and inflation bite. What happens to any individual site depends on those studies, which are still to be done.
The Government has said no to extra public health money for Hertfordshire
Ministers have rejected the county council's request for more public health funding, leaving the authority to manage within its existing grant. Public health lead Cllr Ajanta Hilton and director Sarah Perman said no services have been cut and the prevention investment programme continues, though the council may write to Government again. The grant pays for things like stop-smoking help and substance misuse support, and some extra in-year money may still come as the department reviews staff pay pressures.

Broxbourne Borough Council's AI search tool, BOB 2.0, has answered more than 1.25 million words worth of resident queries and rated 97.4% of them a good response. Instead of digging through pages, you type what you need into the search bar on the council site and BOB points you to the answer, from bin days to parking to council tax. Waltham Cross businesses are being told film and TV crews could put money in their tills
High Street businesses met at the Waltham Cross Town Centre Business Forum on Thursday 17 September to hear how film and TV productions can bring trade and income into the town. Guest speaker Pippa Cawdron from the Hertfordshire Film Office explained how local firms can benefit when a production comes to the area, and there was an update on what the town centre has delivered this year plus the events planned in the run-up to Christmas. If you run a business in Waltham Cross and missed it, it is worth getting on the Business Forum's list so the next production briefing reaches you.
Your MP took questions in Cheshunt, and he'll be back to do it again
Lewis Cocking MP - Cleous Bites Laura Trott
Lewis Cocking MP held one of his regular resident surgeries at Laura Trott Leisure Centre in Cheshunt, and drew the usual crowd of people, young and older, wanting answers on the issues that matter to them. Most went home satisfied, and whatever the topic, residents said simply being able to put their question to him in person counted for a lot. He runs these town halls regularly, so hold your question for the next one, or post it on his website if you can't wait.
Hoddesdon town centre filled up for a day of food, music and street entertainment
Residents turned out across the day as Hoddesdon Town Centre hosted a celebration of food, drink and community, with food vendors, live DJs, children's rides and street entertainment. The crowd held up even as the weather turned, with people lining up for lunch, staying through the afternoon, and others simply popping by. Thanks go to the Love Hoddesdon BID organisers, the town centre staff who worked round the clock, and every food vendor who took part.
