Good Morning {{first_name | Reader}},

Mothering Sunday delivered. Restaurants were packed late into the evening and it was good to see locals backing local. I shared a poem on Facebook to mark the occasion - if you missed it, go find it.

This week's edition is a big one. Hertfordshire Health Bus changing, a hotel controversy finally resolved, and a by-election brewing. Some of these stories you'll have caught, most you won't. Either way, it's all here, verified and ready to read.

The LGR consultation is in its final days. Hertfordshire is about to change, and the shape of that change is still being decided. If you haven't submitted your response yet, do it now. You need to be able to say your contribution mattered. Link below.

Also, scroll down to the events section before you close this. Something is brewing in Cheshunt and you cannot afford to miss it.

Real conversations, shared over a local table

Bringing people together over good food

Hertstown Dinners are small, curated gatherings of six people, hosted in local restaurants and built around a clear theme. Each dinner brings thoughtful locals together for focused conversation, not networking or pitches. Apply to join the next themed Hertstown Dinner.

Open Application Theme: Local Government Reorganisation

This is not a networking event and there are no talks or sales pitches. Just good food, considered discussion, and people who care about where they live. Spaces are limited and allocated by application to keep the experience intentional.

Future dinners will be announced via this newsletter.

🏛️ HERTFORDSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL

28 dangerous pedestrian railings fixed across Hertfordshire in ten weeks

A countywide trial to repair guard rails at pedestrian crossing points has upgraded 28 locations in its first ten weeks, removing temporary orange barriers and replacing damaged railings across six districts. The work covers busy roads in Watford, Three Rivers, Dacorum, St Albans, Hertsmere and Welwyn Hatfield, helping guide pedestrians safely and discouraging unsafe crossing near junctions. More sites are expected to follow as the trial continues.

Hertfordshire sets out a plan to grow its economy from £50bn to £80bn by 2050

County leaders have launched a 10-year economic strategy at a Westminster event attended by government, business and community representatives, positioning Hertfordshire as the UK's global innovation heartland. The Hertfordshire Growth Board's plan targets growth from £50bn today to £63bn by 2036, with priorities including AI and digital adoption, skills development and clean growth. Residents and businesses can read the strategy in full via the link below.

Hertfordshire's mobile health bus is expanding after reaching 4,000 residents

The Better Health Bus has attended 157 events and delivered over 1,200 health and blood pressure checks since launching in July 2024, connecting residents to stop-smoking support, financial advice and recovery programmes. New services now on board include a community support worker, sexual health testing kits, a defibrillator, emergency bleed kits and overdose-reversal medication. Watch out for the bus at an event near you.

Hertfordshire's 11 councils could become 2, 3, or 4 - and you have until 26 March to say what you think

The Government has launched a seven-week consultation on proposals to replace all 11 of Hertfordshire's current councils with new unitary authorities, each responsible for all local services. Three options are under consideration, creating either two, three or four new councils, with decisions expected in summer 2026. The consultation closes on 26 March - submit your views before the deadline.

COMMUNITY UPDATES

The Delta Marriott in Cheshunt will stop housing asylum seekers from mid-June

The Home Office has confirmed it will end the use of the Delta Marriott Hotel in Cheshunt for asylum seeker accommodation from mid-June 2026, more than three years after the arrangement began in December 2022. Broxbourne Borough Council had repeatedly opposed the use of the hotel, including through legal action and direct representations to Downing Street. No further action is required from residents at this stage.

A Broxbourne county council seat is vacant - a by-election may follow

County councillor Tony Hill has resigned from the Flamstead End and Turnford seat just ten months after winning it by 28 votes over Conservative Mark Mills-Bishop. A by-election will only be triggered if two local electors formally request one in writing — after which a date will be announced. If you want a vote on who represents your area, now is the time to act.

Fishy Delishy wins Gold at the Herts Responsible Food Awards, and they're still not done

Hertfordshire's favourite fish restaurant has added a Gold Herts Responsible Food Award to its growing collection, recognising its commitment to quality and responsible practice in the county's food scene. The team at Fishy Delishy celebrated a Silver award not long ago, and have gone straight back and raised the bar. Congratulations to everyone on the team who shows up day after day to make local dining genuinely worth celebrating.

MEME of The Day

HEALTH & WELLBEING TIPS

Take a 10-minute walk after meals.

A short walk after eating can help your body regulate blood sugar, support digestion, and improve overall energy levels. Studies show that even a gentle stroll can make a difference, especially after dinner when people tend to be less active.

You don’t need a gym or special equipment. A quick walk around the block, through a nearby park, or along your street is enough.

Over time, small habits like this can support heart health, weight management, and better sleep.

🚶‍♂️ Tip: Invite a neighbour, friend, or family member to join you. Turning it into a daily routine makes it easier to stick with.
