The Old Pond fountain in Cheshunt has been switched off after someone added foam to the water

The Old Pond fountain in Cheshunt is on pause for repairs after someone added foam to the water, which damaged the mechanism. Broxbourne Council says the bubbles might look fun, but the detergent causes real damage that has to be fixed before the fountain can be switched back on. Residents are being asked to leave the washing up liquid at home so the fountain can stay running for everyone to enjoy.

Heads up: hotter weather is coming next week. Forecasters expect temperatures across Hertfordshire and the south-east to climb significantly from the weekend onwards, with the Met Office's long-range outlook (16 to 25 June) pointing to high pressure becoming more dominant and conditions turning "very warm", possibly above 30°C around Monday 22 and Tuesday 23 June. UV and pollen levels will be high. The Met Office has not declared this a heatwave, but it's a sharp jump from the cool, wet start to the month. Worth planning around if you have young children, elderly relatives, or outdoor commitments next week.
