Hey, did you miss me?
I've been a bit under the weather since the weekend, caught something after the Classic Cars Show (which was fantastic, by the way). One little lie-in turned into a much bigger one, and yep... I missed Tuesday’s issue. But don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten you!
I’m back on my feet now and couldn’t wait to drop today’s edition to keep you in the loop. As always, I’ve got the good stuff for you, some stories I’ve been excited to share, and others I’d rather not but felt I should. If there’s any positive news I’ve missed, feel free to send it my way!
Quick favour: as someone who cares about environmental sustainability, I want to give a shoutout to Hertfordshire’s new Retrofit Strategy helping homes become more energy efficient. I’m not sponsored, just genuinely think it’s worth a look. Link’s in the report below.
Anyway, if anyone’s seen the sun, tell it to come back, we’ve still got a few weeks of summer left!
Have a fab Thursday, see you Friday! 🌞
Here’s what’s inside today’s issue:

What a Gutter Upgrade Actually Costs
We studied what roofers are saying about gutter guard prices in 2025… and here’s what we found out.
Finding the best price comes down to just two simple things:
Cut out the middleman and buy from the manufacturer to save big money.
Get guards that install over your existing gutters - no need to replace anything so you’ll save a fortune.
With a little help, you can find the best gutter guards at a great price.
Check out this no-cost website where you can ‘skip’ the middleman and get (fair) local pricing.
Just hit the link below, and complete a 1-minute survey to get started on finding the perfect gutter guards for your home.
News from Hertfordshire County Council
New Retrofit Strategy Aims to Make Hertfordshire Homes Greener and More Affordable

While energy use might be far from residents’ minds during the summer, Hertfordshire County Council is urging homeowners not to delay making their homes more energy efficient.
To support this, the council has launched a new Retrofit Strategy, developed in partnership with local councils, colleges, and businesses. The plan outlines practical steps households can take to improve energy efficiency—reducing bills, cutting carbon, and creating warmer homes.
Residents are encouraged to explore resources like Hertfordshire Green Trades and to always use local, skilled tradespeople for any retrofit work.
Three Convicted in £6M Wine Fraud Uncovered by Herts Trading Standards

Three individuals have been convicted of fraudulent trading after a complex wine investment scam run by Imperial Wine & Spirits Merchant Ltd was exposed by Hertfordshire Trading Standards.
The operation conned 41 UK victims—many of them vulnerable pensioners—out of £6 million, with more than £37 million flowing through the company’s accounts over a decade.
During a raid, Trading Standards officers uncovered damning evidence, including sales scripts, commission sheets, complaint letters, a "Wine for Dummies" book, and a disturbing office slogan: “No Means Yes.”
The case highlights the devastating impact of financial scams and the importance of regulatory enforcement in protecting consumers.
COMMUNITY UPDATES
Classic Cars and Community Spirit at Cedars Park

Cedars Park roared to life last weekend as families turned out in numbers for the annual Classic Car Show. From vintage treasures to military marvels, the event drew enthusiasts who eagerly chatted about pistons, carburettors, and car history.
The Mayor of Broxbourne made a special appearance, awarding certificates to proud exhibitors, umbrella in hand to fend off the rain. Earlier in the day, she visited Cedars Nature Centre, where she had a memorable encounter with a snake named Mrs Slithers.
