Good Morning {{first_name | Reader}},
Good morning ,
As we transition from the final days of April into the much-anticipated May Bank Holiday, the weather finally being more British than the past weeks. The weekend had a lot gin for it - The St George’s Family Fun Day at Grundy Park, the London Marathon: where we saw Sabastian Sawe make history by becoming the first athlete to complete the course in under two hours. To everyone from across Broxbourne who laced up their trainers and took part in the marathon, whether you were chasing a personal best or supporting a cause, we are incredibly proud of your achievement.
You may notice the news cycle feels a bit quieter this week, and that is intentional. We are currently observing the "pre-election period," commonly known as Purdah. This period is a necessary part of our democratic process, ensuring that public resources are not used to share information that could be viewed as politically controversial as we approach the local elections. Read more about why this period matters for neutrality → We have some local updates but today is really for all the events.
On a more personal note, I have a big celebration on the horizon. It's my birthday this week! I'll be marking the occasion quietly at a secret venue, and if you'd like to help ensure I have a fantastic time, please consider being generous via my Buy Me a Coffee link. Thank you in advance for your kindness, your gifts, and your continued support of this community.

Your say shapes local policing, but the window closes soon

Hertfordshire Neighbourhood Policing Teams have spent the last three months acting on resident feedback, stepping up patrols and making arrests targeting anti-social behaviour, speeding and drug crime. They are now setting priorities for the next round starting May, and the survey to shape those decisions is still open for a few more days. If you live or work in the area, your input directly influences where officers focus, so take two minutes now.
Cheshunt WFC hits a milestone as walking football keeps growing

Staying behind on tech trends can be a career killer.

Boxing programme wraps up with young people staying on at Waltham Cross club
Sporting Aid's boxing and mentoring programme has completed its run, having worked with young people identified as needing extra support to build positive pathways through sport. The programme, delivered in partnership with Waltham Cross Boxing Club, HSP and StreetGames, used boxing to break down barriers and open the door to real mentoring and personal growth. Many of the participants are continuing their journey at the club independently, which is the best possible outcome for a programme like this.

Councillor marks 20 years of public service with the Young at Heart group in Broxbourne

Cllr Mark Mills-Bishop marked two decades in public service last Wednesday with a reflective talk at Rosedale Community Church, speaking to the Young at Heart group about his journey from his earliest days in public life to the present. He spoke with the kind of clarity that comes from genuine connection to the work, and the warmth between him and the group was evident throughout. The evening closed with a singalong, an open invitation to return, and coffee and biscuits, which is about as good as community events get.
Women in AI and Data brought local women together at Theobalds Enterprise Centre

A gathering of women at Theobalds Enterprise Centre last week put practical AI experience front and centre, with speakers sharing their own journeys and encouraging attendees to engage with the technology without hesitation. Julie Cuffield launched her book You, Me and ChatGPT on the night, reading an excerpt to the room. The session combined talks, tips and genuine networking, the kind of event that leaves people with both contacts and confidence.

HEALTH & WELLBEING TIPS
Nuts punch above their weight. Here’s what they actually do for you, without the fluff:
Heart health: Rich in healthy fats that help lower bad cholesterol and support cardiovascular function.
Protein + satiety: They keep you full, which helps control overeating.
Brain support: Nutrients like vitamin E and omega-3s (especially in walnuts) support cognitive function.
Blood sugar control: Low in carbs, they help stabilise glucose levels.
Nutrient dense: Packed with magnesium, fibre, and antioxidants.
Weight management: Easy to overeat, but in controlled portions they actually help with fat loss by reducing cravings.
Reality check, though, a “healthy snack” turns into excess calories fast if you’re mindlessly eating handful after handful. A small portion does the job.
